LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Liberty still unbeaten

Liberty High School's tennis team remains undefeated as of Press deadlines, while a match against Saucon Valley hangs in the balance after being suspended due to adverse weather.

This Monday, the Hurricanes defeated Pocono Mountain West 7-0 and will play a match every day this week, including Bethlehem Catholic on Thursday.

Dan Lynn won 6-1, 6-0 at number one singles, Milind Jagota won 6-0, 6-2 at number two singles, and Julian Mark won 6-0, 6-0 at number three singles.

Mark, a senior, played doubles last year and is currently undefeated in singles.

"I think singles is a little bit easier, actually. There's less pressure because you won't let anyone down by yourself. It makes for some pretty fun tennis when I run down balls that people think I can't get to," Mark said.

Winning at number two doubles were Evan Burlew and Alex Burlew. The pair is undefeated, both are seniors and identical twins.

"I'm 16 minutes older," Alex Burlew said.

The brothers defeated their Pocono Mountain West opponents 6-0, 6-1.

"All the practice we've had has been together, so every response he has is the same response I would have," said Evan Burlew.

The twin brothers' most challenging match was a 7-5, 0-6, 6-0 victory over the number two doubles team from Easton.

"That was an entirely mental game that day. Then there was a rain break. When we're off, we know how to pick each other up," Alex Burlew said.

Evan Burlew explained that the difference between the second set and the third was that the Red Rovers stopped making errors in the second set, and that the brothers set up the points in the third set.

Evan's strength is his ground strokes, and Alex's strength is his serves. Being identical twins doesn't hurt either."It's difficult for opponents to pinpoint our weaknesses," said Evan Burlew.

One thing the brothers both do well is communicate with each other.

"We've developed together. We would love to have an undefeated year. We can keep our heads in it," Alex Burlew said.

Also winning against Pocono Mountain West were Luke Conrad and Jesse Claudio at number three doubles, 8-0, and Colin Bokan and Duke Jin at number four doubles, 8-2.

The Liberty versus Freedom rivalry match is scheduled for next Tuesday.

Mark said, "I think it will be one of our most challenging matches. It's a big rivalry. They have a good team, and we have a good team."
