Liberty girls track wins two meets

Liberty High school's girls track and field team defeated Parkland 95-55 and Pocono Mountain East 113-37 last week.

Hurricane hurdler, Rashana Tompkins, said, "As a team, I honestly thought we'd have a hard time, but we pulled together and did what we had to do."

First place winners were Grace Mittl in the 100 with a time of 13.0, Jaylyn Aminu in the 200 with a time of 25.7, Alicia Valladeras in the 800 with a time of 2:33, and Olivia Sahaydek in the 1600 with a time of 5:29.

Aminu also placed first in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.3, and Tompkins was first in the 300 hurdles with a time of 49.6

Tompkins said, "It felt pretty great. I was really proud of myself. In my threes, I stutter step, and my speed is all over the place."

Liberty's girls also won two relays.

Rachel Finn, Aminu, Kay West, and Mittl took first place in the 4x1 in 50.3, and Peyton Shaffer, Mittl, Sahaydek, and Valladeras took first place in the 4x4 in 4:34.

Finn also won the pole vault with a height of 10-00, Jazmyn Aminu won the shot put with a distance of 32-08.00, and Eleni Prodes won the javelin with a distance of 96-11.

Liberty's boys track and field team also defeated Pocono Mountain East 101-48, but lost to Parkland 77-73.

Josiah Wright took first place in the 100 with a time of 11.2, and the 200 with a time of 23.6

Sam Belony, Anthony Miller, Wright, and Yasim Jackson combined to win the 4x4 relay with a time of 3:46.

Miller also won the high jump with a height of 5-07.00. Darius Jones placed first in the long jump with a distance of 20-08.25 and the triple jump with a distance of 41-06.25

Louie Czaszar won the shot put with a distance of 45-11.0, and the discus with a distance of 116-07.
