HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL: LIBERTY

Elton John and Tim Rice's musical "Aida" is being presented at 7 p.m. April 23 - 25 in the auditorium of Liberty High School, 1115 Linden St., Bethlehem.

Conflict between Egypt and Ehiopia (Nubia) gives birth to a star-crossed love affair between Aida (Brielle Rivera), the captured princess of Nubia, and Radames (Devon McDowell), captain of the Egyptian army who enslaves her people.

Key characters are Amneris (Maggie Harrington), daughter of the Pharoah and fiancee to Radames; Zoser (Jamid Knight), Chief Minister of Egypt and father of Radames, and Mereb (Fahvian Shorey), Ethiopian servant to Radames.

Director is Mark McKenna. Choreographer is Camille Armstrong. Musical and Vocal Director is Gayle Justice. Orchestra Conductor is Allen Frank. Lighting Designer is Zachary Heffner. Costume Designers are Ree Harrington and Laura Papera.

The music is by Elton John. The lyrics are by Tim Rice. The book is by Linda Woolverton, Robert Falls and David Henry Hwang.

The musical, which is based on Giusseppe Verdi's opera, opened on Broadway in 2000, running for four years. The show was nominated for five Tony Awards, receiving five, including Best Musical.

Songs include "Written In The Stars," with the duet by Elton John and LeAnn Rimes reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Charts.
