Volleyball falls to PHS
The Whitehall boys volleyball team saw themselves in a couple of large holes within the first two games last Thursday night against Parkland.
The Zephs were behind by double digits for a part of both games, and Parkland had a lot of size on the Zephyrs.
The Trojans used their length, and the sizeable leads they held to take down Whitehall 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-19 at Whitehall High School.
"Parkland is a big team at the net, with guys that can really swing at the ball," said head coach George Cowitch. "They are ranked number-three in the state for a reason. I felt that we kept them off balance, got a lot of touches on their swings and were able to run our offense. We made mistakes in tight situations towards the end of the sets. It's an experience thing right now, they are an older experienced team. For some reason, the ball just finds our youth in the tough spots."
The Zephyrs never gave up when they were down big, and fought back to keep themselves close and in striking distance each game. It showed that the youth had some energy and wouldn't let a deficit get to them.
The third set was back and forth until the Trojans pushed away at the end to grab the win. The win pushes Parkland to 3-0, undefeated on the year.
Myles Thomas tallied 10 kills, and Mike Burkhardt seven added kills. Kyle Sommers notched 13 digs, and Joey Maamari contributed 25 assists.
"In my opinion, we have to get the ball more to Logan McGinley on offense," noted Cowitch. "He is one of our best offensive weapons and a game changer. We learned a lot from the last two losses and have made what we feel are really good adjustments. We shall see how it goes in our next game against Quakertown."
