With the winter weather keeping most spring sports teams indoors to start the season, the Parkland softball team was fortunate enough to have made a trip to Florida the last week of March, to play against some competition from across the country.

Not only did the Trojans win two games that count towards their overall record, the players were able to get out of the Parkland gymnasium and play in game situations, something that assistant coach Barry Williams couldn't have been happier about.

"We made our trip to Florida from the 25th to the 30th of March and we had a good time," Williams said. "The girls just really wanted to be able to get out of the gym and actually play. With the weather the way it was around here, it was nice for us to get some play on the field in before the season actually kicks off."

In those two games down in Florida, the Trojans beat Bloomer (WI) and Spencerport (NY) by scores of 13-0 and 15-0 respectively. Offense and defense both seemed to be working fairly easy in their first two games of their season, and that didn't change in an away game back in Pennsylvania.

Parkland had five players with multi-hit games, and Abby Fritzinger pitched a complete game, one hitter in an 8-0 win over Freedom last Monday afternoon.

Fritzinger did not allow that Patriots hit until the final inning, and Freedom did not even get a ball out of the infield before their hit.

"Abby's been pitching really well for us all season through our five games so far," said Williams. "She had another good one today, and our offense was able to help her out with all of the hits we had. Everyone contributed today."

Parkland (5-0 overall, 3-0 East Penn Conference) finished with 12 hits on the day. Maddie Marshall (3-3, RBI) and Sam Pickar (3-4, RBI) each totaled three hits, and Sidney Stibitz (2-4, RBI), Kyliegh Stout (2-3, 2 RBI) and Taylor Knappenberger (2-4) all finished with two hits for Parkland in the win.
