Northampton Community College

New dental program offered

A new dental asisting certificate course will run from 9 a.m. June 8 through Aug. 13. The 10-week program prepares participants to work under the supervision of a dentist and focuses on chairside assisting and laboratory techniques. Poet Alix Olson to read and perform April 9

Bethlehem native Alix Olson will read from her poetry for the free, open to the public, Len Roberts Poetry Day at 11 a.m. April 9 at the Lipkin Theatre, NCC Bethlehem Campus. She is known for a unique style of reading and performing, blending art, activism and social awareness in the public arena.

The poetry day is held in memory of Len Roberts, who was an English professor at NCC.

Hook named Wood Chef-in Residence

The chef/owner of H20 Kitchen, Jason Hook, a graduate of Northampton Community College's culinary arts program, is the college's spring semester Robert C. Wood Chef-in-Residence.

He was affiliated with several companies, such as the Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton. He has cooked in the kitchens of Alain Ducasse, Jean-Georges Vongerrichten and Christian Delouvier. He worked in Rhode Island, New York and Paris.

Moravian College

Kosso named provost

Cynthia K. Kosso, Ph.D., was recently named provost and dean of the faculty at Moravian College. She will replace Gordon Weil, Ph.D., as the chief academic officer upon his June 30 retirement.

She is a provost's faculty fellow at Northern Arizona University and is a tenured full professor in the history department. She earned a bachelor's degree in history from Montana State University, and master's degrees in ancient history and classics and archaeology from the University of Minnesota. She earned a Ph.D. in ancient history and classical archaeology from University of Illinois at Chicago.

Gordon Weil will retire after eight years of service to Moravian College and 40 years in education. Weil was instrumental in the conception of the first year seminar and the development of the In Focus thematic programming schedule.

Alcatel-Lucent Global winner

Moravian College and Advance2000 were recently recognized by Alcatel-Lucent for developing and delivering a personalized, connected experience for students, faculty and staff through a "Unified Access" network.

The network enables all data, video and multimedia traffic to make use of a single secure network, and to be accessed by any device without overloading IT with network management and support needs. The network capacity meets the needs of the college today and is prepared to support future expansion.

Nominations were voted on by the ALUE Global Executive Board, and the winner was announced during the closing ceremonies of the Alcatel Lucent's yearly global conference, Inpulse, in Paris, France.
