Richard Samuel Klase

Richard Samuel Klase, 90, of Slatington, died March 15, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at home.

He and his wife Ruth E. (Haines) Klase were married 63 years last April.

Born June 27, 1924, in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Henry W. and Mary (Tombler) Klase.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II having been trained as an airplane engine mechanic in the Pacific Theatre of Operation.

He was a vending machine mechanic for 25 years before retiring in 1984.

A longtime active member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Slatington, he formerly was a volunteer firefighter.

An avid gardener and woodworker, he built a new and different train platform to share with children each Christmas for more than 30 years.

He lived a life devoted to serving God, faithful in prayer, thanksgiving and love.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Ruthanne Toner and her husband, Terence, of Effort, Brenda Makar of Slatington, Carolyn Andreas and her husband, Jeffrey, of Schnecksville, Eileen Klase of Deale, Md.; grandchildren Joshua Andreas of Philadelphia, Lindsay Andreas of Washington, D..C, and Christine Makar of Philadelphia.

He was predeceased by granddaughter Alyssa Toner, brother Milton Klase and sister Mary Louise Hunsinger.
