Hamburg man injured in crash

A 55-year-old Hamburg man was injured when the SUV he was driving overturned several times at 7:17 a.m. March 12 on Main Street, Fogelsville.

Upper Macungie Township police say an officer was dispatched to the area for a reported motor vehicle accident with injuries and a male struck inside of an overturned vehicle.

According to police, Allen J. Williams was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero when it hit a puddle of standing water at the bottom of a hill, half-way between Haaf and Adams roads.

The westbound lane, west of the puddle going uphill was icy, police say.

Police say upon arrival, Williams had exited his SUV, which was on its driver's side in a field along the east side of the road.

Williams told police he was westbound on Main Street, when he noticed a puddle of standing water at the bottom of the hill, police say.

Williams reported he braked lightly as he was going through the puddle, at which point the back end of his SUV began to slip to the driver's right side.

He tried to regain control but was unable to do so due to the icy road conditions and his vehicle spun and crossed the roadway.

The SUV went down a small hill and into the field along the eastbound side of the road before flipping over several times and coming to rest on its left side.

Williams who was wearing his seat belt, was transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

The SUV, which sustained severe damage to the front, right, left and top, was removed by Faust Towing.

Upper Macungie Township Fire Police assisted at the scene.
