Mini-THON 'inspiring'

Saucon Valley's second annual Mini-THON was a roaring success. Together we raised $20,222.86 at the end of THON, which surpassed our goal of $15,000. That almost doubles last year's amount! THON went from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. the next day. All of the participants were up on their feet dancing for those who can't.

The night started off with a guest speaker, Vince Pantalone, who spoke about The Four Diamonds Fund and his son. Pantalone gave a very inspiring speech about how his son demonstrated all of the four diamonds; strength, courage, honesty and wisdom, in his life before it sadly ended.

He gave every single dancer motivation to stay up through the night. The students then participated in various activities throughout the night and morning, such as dodgeball, matt ball, operation gumball, knock out, karaoke, jousting and several dance parties.

Mr. Matt Evancho, head teacher of Mini-THON, really wowed the crowd with his karaoke skills and was followed by other talented students.

All of the grades were separated by colored shirts. The seniors wore black, juniors wore red, sophomores wore grey, and last but not least, the freshmen wore white.

Once an hour, a line dance was taught by Rachel Altemose and Jillian Sinko, two dancers from Saucon Valley, and performed by all of the dancers. The creative lyrics and fun dance moves kept the dancers going throughout the night. The seniors and juniors dominated the sophomores and freshmen in almost all of the events; but everyone participated and had a great time

Luckily there were snacks and drinks thanks to some of the participants and their parents. Colorful signs, posters, streamers and balloons decorated the gym.

Overall, the night went really well, even though it was a struggle to be on our feet for 12 hours straight. It was definitely worth it knowing everything we were doing was for the kids and The Four Diamonds Fund. The experience was humbling and unforgettable to all participants.

A big thanks to Maggie Hofsteadter, head of Mini-THON committee, and all of the teachers and students that helped and participated.
