LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Gearing up for spring

With the school year coming to a close, many schools are beginning to wind down. The Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School, however, is still in full swing, preparing events to help its students on their way through high school, as well as building career-based skills. BAVTS is starting to prepare for its annual car show April 18. This event, which is in its fourth year, raises funds for students who are involved in SkillsUSA, a nationally recognized trade competition. One hundred percent of the money raised goes to students who have advanced to the national level of the competition.

The car show is completely free to spectators, and the public will be able to enjoy tons of activities offered by the various classes at BAVTS. Crafts, food, music, a basket raffle, children's activities and other entertainment will all be available, in addition to seeing the historical cars entered into the show.

To enter a car into the show, a $15 fee is charged in advanced, or $20 the day of the show. After registering, the first 50 people will receive a complimentary dash plaque. The cars are classified into groups based on the decade they're from, and first through third place winners receive a trophy. Twenty-eight total awards will be given along with a "Best in Show" award.

The show will be held Saturday, April 18 with a rain date of April 19 at BAVTS. A community yard sale begins at 8 a.m., with registration for anyone still wishing to enter into the show following at 9. The actual show begins at 11 a.m., and the day wraps up at 3 p.m. with the award ceremony.

Throughout the whole day, activities will be going on along with the car show that everyone from the community can enjoy. Be sure to stop by and support the students in BAVTS in raising the funds needed for their Skills National competition.
