Arthur W. Reid

Arthur W. Reid Jr., 74, a longtime resident of Fellowship Community, in Whitehall, died on March 18, 2015.

Born in Chicago, he was a son of the late Arthur W. and Ruth A. (Roth) Reid.

A 1958 graduate of Allentown High School, he attended Penn State University and honorably served his country in Europe with the U.S. Army.

Chief Deputy of the Lehigh County Coroner's Office for many years, he served as the former chairman of the board of Cetronia Ambulance Corps.

Active in emergency medicine all his life, he previously worked at Sacred Heart Hospital, and was the first state certified paramedic coordinator and Civil Defense director for the city of Allentown.

He was the past secretary/treasurer of the Lehigh Emergency Services Training Institute, and a director of the National Emergency Services Training Institute.

A charter member of the National Association of EMT's, he was a member of the Pennsylvania Coroners Association and was past president of IBEW Local 375 in 1972.

His survivors include daughters Faye E. Hartzell and her husband, Tom, of Nazareth, and Carrie Claypoole and her husband, John, of Clymer, N.Y.; sons Jeffrey and his wife, Dacia of Nappanee, Ind., Jay and his wife, Sandy, of Whitehall, and Arthur W. and his wife, Becky, of New Holland; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brother Ronald J. in 1996.
