Liberty High school's boys tennis team won its first two matches of the season last week, defeating Allen, 7-0, and Easton, 4-3.
Sophomore, Dan Lynn, returned to the number one singles spot this year. Junior, Milind Jagota, who played doubles last year, is at number two singles. Senior, Julian Mark, who also played doubles last year, is at number three singles.
Although the doubles teams had not been finalized as of Press deadlines, Alex Burlew and Evan Burlew are at number two, Luke Conrad and Jesse Claudio are at number three, and Duke Jin and Colin Bokin are at number four.
Jagota had the closest singles match of the day against the Red Rovers, losing to Ryan Betts 6-2, 7-5.
"[In the second set] I got more used to my opponent's style and shifted the way I was playing. He was very consistent so I had to get in the mindset that the points would be long, and I had to pay attention to my footwork because it was messing me up in the first set," Jagota said.
Winning for the Hurricanes against Easton were Lynn 6-1, 6-2, Mark 6-1, 6-1, Burlew and Burlew 6-2, 7-5, and Claudio and Conrad 6-2, 6-1.
Liberty coach Leo Schnalzer said, "We have a fairly level team. They're all competitive players. We just missed districts last year. We were edged out with a winning record (8-6). Parkland, Freedom, and Emmaus will be strong, but I don't know much about the others."
