Bethlehem Catholic volleyball coach Jarred Kostic hopes this spring will be better than last year for the Hawks on the court.
Coming off a 5-12 season a year ago, Becahi returns one starter and Kostic knows it'll take hard work for the Hawks to improve upon their situation in the East Penn Conference.
"The biggest key to our success this season will be patience," said Kostic. "The boys are working really hard in the gym, but they're getting a little frustrated because it's not as easy as they thought it would be. We keep telling them to continue to work hard, continue to ask questions, and it doesn't matter how we start, but how we progress throughout the season and how we finish."
With the loss of seven seniors, as well as the transfer of Grady Hackett to crosstown rival Liberty, Kostic and company will have plenty of work to do in order to improve upon last season's mark.
Senior libero Zach Blair is the lone returning starter for Becahi, but is joined by seniors James Miller, Fred Taylor, Mike McDaniel, Chuck Benzing, JT Barker and Freddie Simmons. His junior group features Kevin Strucko, Pat Mintzer, Chance Neilly, Deandre Tillit, as well as sophomore Mike Karoly.
With athleticism and height working towards the Hawks advantage, getting experience on the court will be vital.
"With one returning starter from last season, trying to get the new kids to learn the game quickly is the challenge I'm going to welcome," Kostic said. "Inexperience will be our weakness, but we'll work hard, have fun and try to do better than we did last season."
