Start spring with a stroll

Spring will officially arrive Friday, March 20, so why not participate in a walk along the Ironton Rail Trail this Saturday?

The seven-mile walk begins at 9 a.m. at the Whitehall Parkway barn on Chestnut Street, west of MacArthur Road by the traffic light at Sheetz.

Participants are asked to allow three hours for the walk, which will include occasional stops to view buildings, historical sites and landmarks.

At least 24 historical sites and landmarks will be presented during the walk.

The IRT traverses the area of the first anthracite-fueled iron company and the first Portland cement company in America, which both played a prominent part in the Industrial Revolution.

Participants are asked to bring water, a camera and binoculars to capture the surroundings and view the vibrant, coming colors of the spring season.
