Whitehall Township Public Library column

The Whitehall Township Public Library's adult book discussion will take place the first Tuesday and Thursday in March, April and May.

The March book talk centers around "The Invention of Wings" by Sue Monk Kidd and the talk is scheduled for 6-7 p.m. tonight, Thursday, March 5.

In April, participants talk about "Loving Frank" By Nancy Horan 6-7 p.m. Thursday, April 2, or 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, April 7.

In May, it's "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater" Or "Pearls Before Swine" by Kurt Vonnegut set for discussion 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, or 6-7 p.m. Thursday, May 7.

The library is getting ready for its 50th anniversary. The kick-off party will be Saturday, April 11, at 1 p.m. at the library. Everyone is invited to the 2015 celebration of 50 years of service to Whitehall and surrounding communities. Keep an eye on this column and read our newsletter and website for more information.

The library and the Whitehall Lions Club are working together to gather donations for the animal shelter Peaceable Kingdom. Boxes are set up at the library for patrons to drop off items from the Peaceable Kingdom wish list. Members of the Lions Club will take the items to the shelter. So far, generous patrons have filled nine boxes. We hope to continue the project through November.

On the first Friday of every month, the Pennsylvania Department of Health will be providing a free blood pressure screening. Dates are March 6, April 3, May 1, June 5 and July 3.

A genealogy overview is scheduled for 1-3 p.m. Thursday, March 26, and 6-8 p.m. Monday March 30.

Library Director Patty Vahey will review two of the resources available for family history research – Ancestry Online and Heritage Quest. Both sources may be found on our website but Ancestry Online must be used at the library. Heritage Quest may be used at home by those who have a current library card.

Online services will be unavailable from 5:30 p.m. March 21 through noon March 22 for work to be done on the website. This includes our online catalog, the "My Account" feature, and any databases which require access using a library card and PIN. No library material will be due March 20 through March 24. We apologize for any inconvenience.
