Rayburn R. Krause

Rayburn R. Krause, 85, of Laurys Station, died Feb. 28, 2015, surrounded by his loving family, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg, Bethlehem.

He was the husband of the late Maryann W. (Sywenki) Krause.

Born July 25, 1929, in Coplay, he was the son of the late Raymond W. and Ferba A. (Grim) Krause.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War era.

He served as the postmaster of the Laurys Station Post Office from 1965-91.

Prior to that, he co-owned with his father, the former R.W. Krause & Son Produce from 1952-65.

Since his formal retirement, he owned the former Flea Tree Nursery in Laurys Station until 2005.

Active in the life of his community and church, he was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Laurys Station, where he formerly served on the consistory for several terms.

He recently received his 55-year service award from Laurys Station Volunteer Fire Company serving with the fire police for 30 years and as a firefighter for 25 years.

A member of the American Legion Post426, Coplay, NARFE, several Grundsow Lodges, he was a life member of VFW Post 15040.

He was an avid train enthusiast.

His survivors include sons, Hans M. and his wife, Stephanie, of Andreas, Heinrich M. and his wife, Diane, of Allentown; sister Jacqueline L. Peters and her husband, Donald, of Florida; grandchildren Bryan, Andrew, Kyle, Victoria, Kevin, Samantha, Kolton and Kenzi; and great-granddaughters, Kylie and Brielle.

His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. March 7, at St. John's UCC, 1415 Rising Run Road, Laurys Station, with the Rev. Dr. James T. Gottwald officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday in Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville and from 9:30- 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church.

Interment with military and firefighter honors will conclude the service in the adjacent church cemetery.
