Feyrer helps pace relay teams at districts
Mina Feyrer had a goal for her and her relay teammates coming into the District 11 Swimming Championships this past weekend at Parkland High School.
That goal was to place in the top-four in all four events that she was swimming in - two individual events and two relay events - to finish out her senior season at Whitehall.
"I'm definitely proud of it. It was my goal to go four-for-four with our records and our placing, and I actually did, so I was happy about it," said Feyrer of reaching her goal.
Feyrer teamed with fellow senior Jessica Marselles, junior Grace Sullivan and freshman Stephanie Setar to finish fourth in the 200 yard medley relay and then joined juniors Alexis Merkert, Mairead Doyle and Grace Sullivan for a fourth place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Individually, Feyrer also finished fourth in the 100 yard freestyle and captured gold in the 100 yard butterfly.
The 100 yard butterfly saw Feyrer miss the district record by 1/100 of a second, finishing at :56.64, just shy of the :56.63 posted by Meghan Polaha of Parkland two years ago. Last year, Feyrer also came up just shy of the record in the same event.
Merkert finished fifth in the 100 butterfly, in addition to being on the 200 freestyle team and being a member of the 400 yard freestyle team that finished sixth. Stephanie Setar, Abby Nguyen and Alexandra Dorner were Merkert's teammates in the 400 event.
In addition to her finishes in relay events, Setar also placed sixth in the 200 IM event and ninth in the 100 yard backstroke.
Sophomore Jordan Rivera had the best showing of the meet in boys individual events, finishing 14th in the 100 yard breaststroke. Rivera was also on the boys 200 yard freestyle team - with Anthony Fragnito, Felix Figueroa and Michael Haggerty - which finished 11th. Rivera, Figueroa, Fragnito and Jack Yadush comprised the 200 yard medley team, coming in 12th. Another relay team with Fragnito, Haggerty, Figueroa and Yadush placed 13th in the 400 yard freestyle event.
Overall, the girls team finished the meet in seventh, behind Parkland, Emmaus, Liberty, Nazareth, Freedom and Easton. The boys team finished 14th in the meet. The Emmaus boys team won the team title for the eighth consecutive season.
Feyrer will compete in the 100 yard butterfly event at the PIAA Swimming Championships, which are held from March 11-14 at Bucknell University.
Feyrer is seeded eighth in the event and she's looking forward to competing.
"It's really exciting, to have had such a good race and now get to compete in states," said Feyrer. "I'm really looking forward to setting an even better time out there."
