Feyrer headed to states

Whitehall High School senior, Mina Feyrer, clinched first place in the 100 butterfly at the District XI Class AAA Swimming Championships last weekend.

"It was a little bit [of pressure], especially coming back from last year and winning. I really wanted to do it again," Feyrer said.

Feyrer also broke the school record with her time of 56.64.

"It was the first time I dropped time in two years. Coach [Peter] Rile worked with me on my tempo with my kicking, and we worked on turns and not hanging on the wall like I used to," said Feyrer. "I was definitely relieved. I'd been thinking about it for a long time."

Feyrer also medaled in the 100 free, placing fourth with a time of 53.74.

"I usually swim the backstroke, but a week before, it wasn't going well, and I changed at the last minute. My goal was getting the school record. I wanted to have that time so my college coaches can see that I can swim that event too," Feyrer said.

Feyrer did break Whitehall's school record by .04 seconds.

The Zephyrs 200 medley relay team of Stephanie Setar, Jess Marselles, Feyrer, and Grace Sullivan also broke the school record with a time of 1:50.56, placing fourth.

"We didn't know until two days before districts who would be swimming, so we were definitely excited, and we wanted to show we were the right choice for the relay. It kind of sneaked up on us. We didn't expect to place," said Feyrer. "We were all really happy about it because no one thought it would be possible to beat that time."

Mairead Doyle, Sullivan, Alexus Merkert, and Feyrer took fourth place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:40.63, breaking the school record by more than one second.

"We definitely saw we could get the record, and we saw we could do our best time," Feyrer said.

Whitehall's boys 200 free relay team placed 11th. Anthony Fragnito, Jordan Rivera, Michael Haggerty, and Felix Figueroa's time was 1:38.58.
