Nike Coaches Clinic coming to area March 5-7

St. Luke's Sports Medicine, a service of St. Luke's University Health Network, is the local sponsor for this year's national Nike Coach of the Year Clinic.

Scheduled for March 5–7 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Breinigsville, this football clinic brings nationally recognized college coaches to the area to speak to and interact with local high school and college coaches. Nike expects approximately 300 local coaches to attend.

This year's speakers include Mark Helfrich, head coach of the Oregon University Ducks; Mark Stoops, head coach of the University of Kentucky Wildcats; Kyle Flood, head coach of the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights; Bronco Mendenhall, head coach of the Brigham Young University Cougars; and Tim Murphy, head coach of the Harvard University Crimson. Some presentations of note will include topics such as injury and injury prevention.

Also speaking at the clinic will be three of St. Luke's orthopaedic surgeons: Nicholas Avallone, MD; Brett Gibson, MD; and Daniel Heckman, MD. All sports medicine specialists, the surgeons will present information on: ACL injuries in football, prevention and treatment, trends in hip injury treatment and an update on shoulder injuries in football.

St. Luke's is the largest provider of sports medicine services in the Greater Lehigh Valley region, specializing in athletic trainer and team physician services.

In addition to Easton Area, Wilson Area, Notre Dame, Marian Catholic, Whitehall, Northampton, Quakertown, Jim Thorpe, Mahanoy Area in Pennsylvania and Belvidere High School, Warren Hills Regional High School, Delaware Valley Regional High School, Phillipsburg School District and Centenary College in New Jersey, St. Luke's Sports Medicine has recently signed contracts to provide both Moravian College and Bethlehem Area School District (BASD) with sports medicine services. St. Luke's Sports Medicine is also the official medical provider for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association's (PIAA) District XI.
