Have a devil of a time with the baseball-themed musical "Damn Yankees."
"It's about America's greatest pastime," says director Bill Mutimer. "It's also a family-friendly musical. You can bring the kids."
"Damn Yankees" is presented at 7 p.m. March 5 - 7 and 2 p.m. March 7 - 8 in the auditorium of Northwestern Lehigh High School, 6493 Rt. 309, New Tripoli, Lynn Township.
The musical about "America's greatest pastime" chronicles the story of New York Yankees baseball player Joe Boyd (Ben Bevon), who sells his soul to Mr. Applegate, aka The Devil (Devon Deevers), for long ball-hitter Joe Hardy (Zach MacDonald).
Sparks fly when Joe Hardy goes back to visit his wife, Meg (Daneen Haas), causing Mr. Applegate to enlist the charms of seductress Lola (Megan Rebert).
Co-choreographing with Mutimer is Chelsea Montgomery-Duban. Sheri Melcher is music director.

"Damn Yankees" is based on the Faustian legend. The Broadway musical premiered in 1955 and ran for 1,019 performances, uniting choreographer Bob Fosse and his wife Gwen Verdon, who was in the lead role. The musical was nominated for eight Tony Awards, receiving six Tonys, ncluding musical.
A film version, staring the Broadway cast, plus Tab Hunter, was released in 1958.
