LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Performances planned

As the snow piles up, so do the events and activities at the Lehigh Valley Charter HS for the Arts. Concerts, auditions, fashion shows and more are in the forecast for these upcoming wintry weeks. There's too much in store in the Charter Arts calendar to hibernate quite yet.

The music department has many events in store. The Charter Arts Jazz Ensemble performance (Feb. 25), the "Woodwinds and Brass" concert (March 5), and "An Evening of Chamber Music" (March 12) will be held at Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem. Furthermore, the music department will also be hosting the "Night of Percussion" concert Tuesday, March 3. On March 16, the Jazz Café will be hosted in the Black Box Theater in the Charter Arts building.

Of additional noteworthiness, four Charter Arts students, Elizabeth King, Eloise Salen, Danny Syvret and Tory Figueroa were selected for Regional Orchestra. Also, the Charter Arts Touring Choir recently had the privilege of performing with the rock band Foreigner Feb. 20.

The Theatre Department has also been busy. A performance of "Metamorphoses" will be held in the Second Stage Theatre at Charter Arts from March 5 through 8. Theatre showcases (grades 9-11) are being held March 10 through 12.

The department's annual spring musical will be "Blood Brothers," which will run from April 15 through 19. The plot of this musical revolves around two fraternal twins who were separated at birth, but whose lives become inevitably intertwined. Additionally, the Theatre Department recently had a master class on the Suzuki Method by Charter Arts alumnus Christopher Ryland. This method was inspired by Greek theater and helps young actors develop awareness of their bodies and centers.

The Poetry Slam will be held March 27 at the Lehigh Valley Charter HS for the Arts. This event will feature the original poetry of Charter Arts students from various majors.

"Flying Solo," an annual fashion show produced by the Charter Arts Parent Association, will take place at the Palace Center in Allentown March 22. This show will feature the designs of emerging, professional and even student designers.

The student council will be hosting the second blood drive of the year with Miller-Keystone Blood Bank April 10.

The annual senior art exhibit will have its opening reception April 10 as well. This will take place in the Fowler Gallery in the Charter Arts building.

The Figure Skating Department will have its show, "As Time Goes By," April 18.

Dancers are preparing for the Young Choreographers in Concert, or YCC, performance on April 30 through May 3.
