Young, Finn place 6th, 7th

Freedom High School junior, Madison Young, and Liberty High School junior, Rachel Finn, placed sixth and seventh, respectively, at the District XI Class AAA Diving Championships on Saturday at Emmaus High School.

Coach Jeff Zettlemoyer said, "I felt very good about them. The only dive Maddie really missed was her back 1 1/2 pike."

Young's score was 423.05.

"Compared to last year, I did a lot better, and I had almost all new dives," she said.

One of those dives, a back 1 1/2 somersault with 1 1/2 twists, had Young's highest degree of difficulty, a 2.5.

"It's really new. I just got it this season. Sometimes my feet hit the water before my hands, and it's considered failed, but that didn't happen," said Young.

Young's inward dive pike had the highest scores, ranging from 7.5 to 9.0.

"I've just been doing that one for a long time," she said.

Young's reverse dive pike and forward 1 1/2 somersault pike earned scores between 7.0 and 8.5.

"My reverse dive has gotten a lot better since last year. I used to be scared of it," said Young.

Although Young's diving season ended on Saturday, she believes her season went well and that she did the best she could, which included breaking the Freedom High School team record several weeks ago.

"It was one of my major goals for the season. I came close to it, and missed by a little bit, but I had a pretty good meet that time," Young said.

Finn's district score was 355.70, with her highest scores on her inward dive pike. Finn's highest degree of difficulty dive was a forward 2 somersault pike at a 2.3.
