McGinty takes 5th

Freedom High School junior, John McGinty, took fifth place at the District XI Class AAA Diving Championships on Saturday at Emmaus High School.

Coach Jeff Zettlemoyer said, "John got pretty good scores which made me happy. He only missed two dives, his front 1 1/2 and his reverse double. He hit all the other ones."

McGinty's score was 365.10.

"I was happy about my scores. I missed a couple dives. I didn't have a good hurdle [on them], but overall, I did pretty well," McGinty said.

McGinty's back 1 1/2 half scored 7.5s and 8.0s.

"I just went up and did it," said McGinty.

McGinty also had success with his back 1 straight, and his highest degree of difficulty dive was a 2.4, a double front 2 1/2 somersault tuck.

"I was happy with it. I didn't really do it throughout the season. The scores rounded up to about a 36 point dive," he said.

Regarding the high school diving season, which ended for McGinty on Saturday, the Patriot junior will return next year.

"I think I improved a lot from last year. I went from my highest score of 192 last year to 242 this year, so it was a pretty big difference. I was happy," said McGinty.

Parkland High School diver, Chris Lehman, won the district title with a score of 443.30.
