LHS girls fall to Easton

Always looking for the positive in any situation, Liberty girls basketball coach Becky Soto left the Hurricanes on a positive note when their season ended last Friday in the quarterfinal round of District XI Class AAAA playoffs after they lost to Easton 52-40 at Northern Lehigh High School.

"Sometimes you want something so bad, but you have to understand that sometimes you won't get it. Unfortunately, that night, Easton was the better team," Soto said.

The Red Rovers took a big lead early in the game and held onto it for the most part. As was often the case during the regular season, Liberty poured it on in the fourth quarter, this time, coming to within three points. However, Easton scored nine straight, well on their way to victory.

"Yes, that was a pattern this year, learning how to finish. As coaches, we pointed it out. We would break it down, give them game situations," said Soto

In fact, it was the last game of the regular season that was a must-win for the Hurricanes to get into districts and the East Penn Conference Tournament.

"We knew we would qualify. We knew every game what we needed to do," Soto said

With no seniors on the team, all of the Hurricanes will be returning, another positive note to the end of the season

"[Overall], they did meet my expectations in some areas. As a coach I wanted to give them more, but we're already thinking about summer," said Soto.
