Robert E. Hoppes Sr.
Robert E. Hoppes Sr., 91, from Coplay, died Feb. 10, 2015, in St. Luke's Hospital, Allentown.
He and his wife Dorothy D. (Lazarus) Hoppes were married 70 years last March 25.
Born April 15, 1923, in Washington Township, he was the son of the late Leon and Helen (Frantz) Hoppes.
He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II achieving the rank of sergeant.
A crane operator at the former Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 30 years before retiring, he also was a self-employed barber from 1962-14 and a farmer where his duties included driving truck to deliver produce.
He was a member of the Allen O. Delke American Legion Post 16, Slatington.
He was a member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs.
An avid outdoorsman, he was the co-founder of the Hoppes Deer Camp, Sullivan County, a life member of Grouse Hall and enjoyed playing golf.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Robert E. Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Coplay, Diane C. Selig of Germansville, Darrell R. Sr. of Coplay, Kevin L. and his wife, Louise, of Portland, Ore., Duane L. and his wife, Linda, of Coplay; brothers Floyd J. and Charles F. and his wife, Dorothy, all of Slatington; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; two step- great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters Lillian and Violet "Tootie."
