Restroom coming to Hokey park

A second restroom will be built at the Hokendauqua Park & Playground.

Construction will start in late spring or early summer.

The restroom will be erected near the double basketball courts on the west side of the park.

Materials for the project are estimated to cost $32,768. The township's public works personnel will perform most of the construction work. There is a restroom at the pavilion site, east of the ball fields.

The Coplay-Whitehall Sewer Authority laid lines for the restrooms when the interceptor lines were installed. Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. said the Northampton Borough Municipal Authority also installed water lines at the facility.

Funding for the project will come through matching monies and a grant from the Whitehall Township Recreation Commission.

The township recreation department indicated memorial plaques and a flagpole will be installed in spring at Riverwalk Park, Cementon. The recreation department also reported repairs have been made to playground equipment at Allencrest.

Maintenance continues on the Ironton Rail-Trail. Paving of the spur from the MacArthur Road overpass to the North Whitehall Township border will take place in spring.

Recreation Director Greg Mooney said the youth martial arts program has resumed, along with indoor adult, youth and special needs swim lessons at the Whitehall High School swimming pool. Aqua aerobics has also continued.

The township continues running rentals at the West Catasauqua and Cementon Parks and working with the Communities that Care project. The recreation department is also working with the school district to schedule indoor basketball for township youth teams and Coplay Sports. Zumba classes are beginning at the West Catasauqua Playground building.
