Wescosville School Fundraising earns a smooch for Pee Wee

Wescosville Elementary School held an unusually interesting and entertaining assembly Feb. 10.

The event began with the singing of "The Star Spangled Banner" but ended with kissing Pee Wee the pig, a snort and a hoot to see.

Before the pig kissing, first and second grade students sang and recited poems.

Daniel Fox, a guidance counselor at Wescosville, then read a story about a hurt sparrow found in the bottom of a trash can needing care as the third and fourth grade students took the stage.

"I chose that story because 'caring' is the character word of the month and it goes with Valentine's Day," Fox said.

After the third and fourth graders performed songs and poems, a few prizes were presented.

The appearance of Pee Wee marked the finale of the assembly.

Jason Hanlon, who teaches fourth grade, won the privilege to kiss Pee Wee because his class collected over $200 for the organization Autism Speaks. Hanlon kissed Pee Wee while the pig contentedly ate treats.

A total of $1,067.98 was raised by the students for Autism Speaks in two weeks.
