To the Editor,
Citizens and prospective office holders are invited to attend the "Running for Local Office Workshop 2015" held by the League of Women Voters.
We conduct the workshop every other year in order to help individuals who are interested in running for local offices learn the essentials of the process. It informs prospective candidates about making timely filings, strategies for recruiting volunteers and some successful methods for running an effective campaign.
The workshop is open to members of all political parties and affiliations. It addresses running for local offices in city, county, borough, township, school boards and even judicial elections in Lehigh County and Northampton County.
A variety of people from the area who have managed successful campaigns, held local office and have relevant experience in the public service arena have been recruited to discuss their experiences, share their knowledge, and answer questions about the process of running for public office at the level of local government.
This is the perfect place to explore the nuts and bolts of the process and to learn how to avoid many beginning campaigner errors. People helping on a campaign will get a lot out of this entertaining and informative event, so candidates should consider coming with an associate.
The 2015 workshop will be held 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Gates Center Alumni Hall Building on the Northampton Community College Campus, 3835 Green Pond Road in Bethlehem. There is a cost.
Pre-registration is needed so we can prepare materials and order refreshments. Information is on the www. lwvlv.org and www. lwvnorthco.org websites. We look forward to meeting aspiring office holders at this event.
