'Topping off' observed at Moravian Village

A beam painted white and signed by Moravian Village of Bethlehem residents, staff and construction workers was put in place Dec. 30 commemorating the official 'Topping Off" of Moravian Village's construction project. An evergreen tree perched atop a construction site is an industry tradition associated with the raising of a building's highest beam or structural element. In the U.S., the tree is a sign that a construction project has reach-ed its highest point and is a blessing for the building and its future inhabitants. On schedule to be completed in the spring, the $4 million, 5,000-square-foot expansion will hold the new bistro dining room and commercial kitchen.
