ALBURTIS BOROUGH COUNCIL Police chief alerts council to new neighbor

At the Jan. 28 Alburtis Borough Council meeting, Police Chief Robert Palmer presented a memo and flyer from the PA State Police Megan's Law Unit regarding a sexual predator who recently moved into the borough.

Palmer said he has notified all residents living near the offender as required by law as well as Alburtis Elementary School, Tree House Child Care Center, Mayor Kathleen Palmer and council.

Council President Steve Hill and council want all residents to know they can find a list of offenders living in Alburtis at www.kidslivesafe.com/megans_ law.

Council adopted Ordinance No. 526 creating the position of borough manager. Council also increased certified letter fees from $6 to 110 percent of the fee charged by the post office and amended the medical expense reimbursement plan and the health reimbursement arrangements to explain the requirements, security and administrative rules of the plan and more, including appeals of denied claims. Voting was unanimous.

Resolution No. 2015-1 was passed officially appointing Sharon L. Trexler to the position of borough manager. John Aleszczyk, a relative of Trexler, withheld his vote.

Council authorized Trexler to purchase a Dell computer with a monitor and a new license for $1,165 for the office. When the new computer arrives, the existing office computer will be repurposed to the maintenance department.

A motion was passed authorizing the engineer to draw up specs to start the process of requesting bids for work to be done on the sidewalks on the north side of Third Street. Minutes from the Jan. 14 meeting, the treasurer's report and bills for payment were all reviewed and approved by council.

The conditional use hearing for the new Cingular Wireless PCS, LLC d/b/a AT&T was postponed until 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at Alburtis Borough Hall during the regularly scheduled meeting.

Councilperson David Lehr requested an executive session 8:10 p.m. to discuss legal matters following adjournment.
