Managing personnel in N. Catasauqua
A master list of committee members and volunteers who access the North Catasauqua Borough municipal building for their meetings and volunteer work will be compiled soon.
Councilman John Yanek suggested compiling the list at the Jan. 13 borough council meeting. He is creating an information form that committee members, volunteers and We Sing members will fill out, just so everyone who uses the municipal building on a regular basis is identified and the information is easily accessible when needed.
Police personnel, road crew members, fire department volunteers, office employees, emergency management personnel, zoning hearing board members and civil service board members, along with members of the recreation and betterment committees and the community chorus, will be asked to fill out the information sheets, which will be kept at the municipal building.
Borough Treasurer Annette Englert said the contact information would be useful to the office staff.
"In case someone would get hurt during an event, in case they would go to the hospital, we may have no idea who that person is," she said. She suggested keeping a list in the office in case of such an emergency.
Also being drafted is a reservation form so residents can schedule the use of the municipal building's community room.
The council also discussed security at the municipal building, including the use of door keys, key cards or key fobs as options that may be considered when upgrading the locks and controlling accessibility of the building.
Concern was expressed that there may be a number of people who no longer hold positions with the borough who still have keys to access the building.
The office staff will look into the cost of different security systems for the council's future consideration.
The council also discussed the possibility asking for an audit of the books for the betterment committee and We Sing Chorus, two volunteer groups who use borough equipment and properties, often for fundraising events.
"I am trying to play devil's advocate in a world where people could be disgruntled and want to see where all this money is," Yanek said.
He said the recreation committee financial records are already audited regularly.
Fire company records are also audited, according Fire Chief Sean McGinley.
"It's peace of mind for our treasurer that everything is good," he said.
The council discussed the possibility of looking at annual statements from the organizations, but decided against it.
"I think we just want a statement from an auditor saying everything is OK," Councilman Peter Paone said.
Also at the meeting, Englert reported invoices for refuse pickup were recently mailed by the borough. She said a total of $391,878.51 is owed to the borough by 1,129 residents, landlords and businesses.
