Girls still want more wins
Catasauqua head girls' basketball coach Ed Seidick is optimistic his club can continue to be a solid foundation as well as registering some more wins.
While their three wins have been a high mark based on recent history, the first-year coach realizes his club still will experience plenty of more bumps along their record.
He pointed to a recent 54-8 loss to Palisades, a defeat that hasn't been reflective of the program. After a three-game winning streak (3-15 overall), the Roughies have lost their last five games by 30 or more points.
"We didn't play well at all in that game," said Seidick, who removed his starters to allow more times for his reserves. "We had less effort than usual. We had been playing better basketball lately, but we reverted back to some of our bad habits. We need to keep executing and moving the ball like we had been doing.
"That can happen. We have come far, but we have a way to go."
Seidick can take some solace that his squad is being more respected.
"I know we are on people's radar," said Seidick. "Everyone has been scouting us. They have been watching us and know we can give them a game. The girls do have more confidence now because they know how to win games.
"We just have to keep executing."
Senior center Shiloh Sziy has been a constant throughout the season, and Seidick would like her to receive some recognition.
"She is our glue," said Seidick. "Lately, she has been doing a great job as she is averaging close to a double-double a game and has been pulling down more than 10 rebounds a game. I think she is one of the best forwards in the league, offensively and defensively, and she should be honored."
Seidick noted the team can gain some further momentum for the future in their final four games of the season. The Roughies have Southern Lehigh, Notre Dame, Northwestern, and Northern Lehigh left.
"We want to compete in the final games," he said. "There will be teams looking to get ready for the postseason, so it won't be easy. But these girls can pull it all together. We have had a good chemistry and it is getting better.
"We think we can pick up as win or two. It could be a nice way to end the season."
