A Super Bowl tradition continues Sunday in the borough in conjunction with the NFL Super Bowl football championship game. Coplay Lions Club holds is annual Super Bowl All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast at the Coplay Saengerbund, 8 a.m.-noon.

The hall will be packed with families. This is one of the most well-attended functions yearly in town. Held as the Lions Club's major fundraiser for the year, children and grownups attend, sporting their favorite NFL gear.

Unlike some earlier years, the borough does not have a long list of residents looking for someone to shovel their sidewalks and steps following a snowfall. The borough office reports only two persons are on the list kept there. The youngsters have said they are available to assist for a fee.

It seems, some say, snowblowers are now doing the job. Often a property owner with a snowblower does his sidewalk, then does the neighbor's, and often goes down the block, removing the snow.

The borough long has enjoyed a reputation for having restaurants featuring a classic hot dog, usually with all the fixings. With Bill's Restaurant shut down for more than a couple of years, it left Binnie's Hot Dogs & Family Restaurant, Front and Chestnut streets at the Coplay-Northampton Bridge, as the sole eatery for hot dogs.

A sign at Binnie's states it is closed for renovations. With no date given for it's re-opening, the sign only states it will be soon.

Coplay Saengerbund's kitchen serves a signature hot dog to its members. Often lines form for the treat, especially for wieners with the Saengerbund's special sauce recipe.

Children finally were given the opportunity to enjoy winter this weekend, as evidenced by the number of boys and girls on the slopes at the west of Coplay Parkway, off North Second Street. Dressed in boots and warm weather togs, the children, many with new tubes, plastic slides and dishes, glided down the packed snow, some with moms and dads watching.

A couple of grownups were sighted with wooden slides from previous eras, with steel runners and a horizontal wooden steering guide.

Borough public works personnel are receiving praise from many quarters in town for their snow plowing efforts. They have cleared not only the streets all the alleys as well, before tackling sidewalks owned by the borough at the library, borough hall and parkway. The areas around churches were given first preference when snow clearing began.
