LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Guy Bieber, residential plumbing and sewage enforcement officer, was issued a proclamation for his years of service with Lower Macungie Township at the Jan. 22 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting.

Bieber is retiring after 41 years of service. He will work until Jan. 31 and has offered his services during the transition.

In other business, a resolution was approved for public sewage hook-up on North Walnut Street.

Ken Guldin, a resident of Wild Cherry Knoll, brought a sample substance being left to drain into a storm drain. It is a mixture of sand and salt. Wild Cherry Knoll is a gated community. It is not clear as to where this mixture is originating.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said Lower Macungie Township will receive $676,000 from condemned properties. These properties were condemned as they were flooding constantly.

A resident suggested when checking the East Texas intersection, attention should be given to school traffic at Wescosville School. This area greatly affects the East Texas area.

Automated garbage pick-up has been discussed but given bad reviews. It was decided the solid waste contract will be renewed as it is.

In Township Manager Bruce Fosselman's report, he said both generators have been installed. Camp Olympic is in the middle of parking lot and road improvements. Barn renovations are also coming soon. The new township electronic sign usage is being considered.

Lower Macungie Youth Association has a preliminary agreement on land use. It will be presented at the next meeting.

Township Engineer Alan Fornwalt presented his report. Fornwalt forwarded information from the traffic studies with Upper Macungie Township. Projects considered are Brookside Road, Krocks Road and Route 222, Minesite and Cedar Crest Boulevard, Hamilton Boulevard, Route 100 in Macungie Borough, Route 222 and SR 6222, Route 222 and turnpike overpass and the Route 78 and 222 interchange. These are long-term projects encompassing 10 to 20 years.

As per the bylaws, the commissioners must appoint the environmental advisory committee chair. They have re-appointed the present chair who is Scott Alderfer.

Lanscek further opposed use of the Spring Creek Properties Real Estate Transfer Tax as he does not want to put a burden on future boards. Commissioner Ron Beitler supports whatever is necessary to move this action forward.

Scott Bieber, a resident of Upper Milford Township and also a representative of the Lehigh County Agricultural Board, commended Lanscek's statement to support the open spaces program.
