The school nurses of Salisbury School District want to inform parents flu is spiking in the Lehigh Valley. The flu is characterized by high fever, aches, headache, fatigue, cough and runny nose. Adults are usually contagious for up to five days while children can be contagious for up to a week. The nurses would like parents of sick children to keep the children at home. Sending sick children to school puts others at risk. Children need to be fever-free and off fever-reducing medication for 24 hours prior to returning to school.
