Student profile: Maria Morello, Notre Dame HS
Grade: 12
Family members: I live with my dad, Tony, my mom, Geralyn and my little brother Tony, who is 11 years old.
Favorite subject: My favorite subjects are Spanish and theology. I enjoy Spanish because I think it is very interesting to learn a new language and be able to communicate with others. I am in Honors Spanish 4 class and Honors Theology class. Theology is my other favorite subject because I especially love discussing deeper meanings and learning to understand the particulars of my Catholic faith. Strengthening my relationship with God is important to me and I believe I do that each day in theology class.
Activities: I participate in varsity cheerleading, National Honor Society, executive board secretary of student council, vice president of Students Against Destructive Decisions, Key Club, Friends Peer Listening, Foreign Language Honor Society, Greenhouse Club, altar serving and ND MiniTHON.
Next steps: My next steps consist of attending college, and I hope to obtain a degree in nursing or take further steps to become a Physician's Assistant.
Career goals: My goals include becoming either a pediatric nurse or a Physician's Assistant and working at a hospital.
Heroes: A hero that I look up to is my mom, who no matter what, always puts people before herself and gives everyone the benefit of the doubt.
Hobbies: I enjoy playing the piano, listening to music and reading love stories (especially by my favorite author, Nicholas Sparks).
Current job(s): I currently work at The Little Gym in Easton, where I assist children in classes and help make kids' parties special. Over the summer, I also worked for AwShucks, the famous roasted corn, at Musikfest.
Volunteer/community work: For the past two summers, I volunteered to coach Notre Dame Little Crusaders cheerleading and coached three cheerleading teams during the summer. For the past three years, I stand on my feet for 24 hours and dance to raise money for pediatric cancer at ND's MiniTHON. Also, I am an assistant coach of Notre Dame JV cheerleading and volunteer during the camp each summer, and I altar serve at my church, St. Jane Frances. I also volunteer to help with Key Club's Special Olympics each year, Student Council's St. Patty's Day celebration for kindergartners and I am a lector at Mass.
Likes: I like spending time with my friends and family, playing with my kitten, going to the beach and eating ice cream with sprinkles.
Dislikes: I do not really strongly dislike anything.
Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment in probably not missing one day of school in all of high school or being in the top ten percent of my class.
Advice for peers: Definitely always treat others the way you want to be treated, and never judge someone because everyone deserves a friend who cares about them, and you could be that friend who changes somebody's life.
