Robert A. Spillman, whose career as a local architect and influence through a number of leadership roles and beneficial organizations in the Lehigh Valley over more than 40 years, was honored by the city, family and work associates during a surprise luncheon in his honor Dec. 22. The event in the ArtsQuest SteelStacks Blast Furnace Room featured warm words from longtime friends to celebrate Spillman's impact on the area. Hosted by the R.K. Laros Foundation, Spillman Farmer Architects and the Lehigh Valley Industrial Park – all of which have been guided by Spillman – the day culminated in the recognition as "Robert A. Spillman Day," presented in an official document from city hall.
Robert 'Bob' A. Spillman is surprised by friends and longtime associates as he enters the Blas Furnace Room with his daughter, Sarah Spillman-Bryar. 'I thought until 10 minutes ago I was going to the office to meeting the partners,' says a grinning honoree.
