Hellertown Borough Council recently passed new fees for garbage pick up. At the Jan. 5 meeting, council unanimously approved the new fee schedule for 2015.

According to the schedule, commercial businesses with 2-cubic-yard dumpsters will be charged $700 per year for pick up once a week; $1,050 for pick up twice weekly; and $1,400 for pick up three times per week.

Also, commercial businesses with 1.5 cubic yard Dumpsters will be charged $525 per year for pick up weekly. There will be an ncrease of $374 for the second collection and $112.50 for the third weekly collection.

Certain business owners will see no change in their fee schedules for 2015.

"The residential, home office and low impact commercial business rates did not change and remain the same as previous years," borough manager Cathy Hartranft said.

Hartranft added the rates were calculated using disposal, volume, personnel and transportation costs.

Also during the meeting, council appointed Teresa Stauffer to serve on the Hellertown Library Board of Trustees and approved the 2015 fee schedule for Barry Isett & Associates, the borough engineering firm.
