LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Western Salisbury Township

Salisbury schools have two great service projects in the works.

Salisbury Middle School will hold a Dance-a-thon 7 p.m. Jan. 30 through 7 a.m. Jan. 31. Students need a minimum pledge amount to participate and prizes will be awarded for different contests throughout the night.

All proceeds go to either the Dream Come True Foundation, which fulfills dreams of ill children or the Prager Cancer Patient Fund at Lehigh Valley Health Network.

A friend of mine who works at LVHN recently told me about the Prager Fund and all the good things it does for cancer patients, like help with transporting them to treatments and paying their utilities. Even if you don't have a student at SMS, donating to this cause is a good idea.

The Student Government Advisory of Salisbury High School is sponsoring a coin collection competition between students and teachers to raise awareness and funds for The Wounded Warrior Project.

The WWP provides programs and services for injured service members and their families. The competition works like this: The students and faculty have separate containers. Any coins placed in a container count as a positive addition. Any bills placed in the container count as negatives. If you have a student at SHS, send them in with some coins (to put in the student container) or bills (to put in the teacher container) to help the students win the competition and at the same time help a great cause.

The 2015 graduating class of Salisbury High School is selling David's Cookie Dough as a class fundraiser. If you are interested in making a purchase, visit the school website for an order form. Cookie dough also can be purchased from SHS seniors.

All orders are due by Jan. 26.

One more item for the parents of seniors; now is the time to order graduation announcements. Packets with information were sent home recently, but in case you didn't see it (let's face it, teenagers do not always bring things home) you can visit the school website for a link to order announcements online. Orders must be placed by Jan. 26.

Western Salisbury Elementary School PTA is holding family nights at Louie's Restaurant Feb. 1 to 5.

All Salisbury Township schools will have an early dismissal Jan. 30. The high school and middle school will dismiss 12:15 p.m. and the elementary schools will dismiss students 1 p.m.

The next curriculum committee meeting will be held 7 p.m. Jan. 26 at Western SalisburyElementary School. An operations committee meeting will be held 7 p.m. Feb. 2 at the administration building, 2900 South Pike Ave.
