Parks named to state post

ArtsQuest President and CQO Jeffrey Parks has been appointed to the 19 member Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Outgoing PCA Chair and Pennsylvania First Lady Susan Corbett stated that it was a pleasure to have him appointed to the board.

A graduate of Lehigh University and the University of Pennsylvania, he is a member of Association of Performing Arts Presenters board of directors. He was on the boards for Discover Lehigh Valley regional tourism agency and several other community organizations.

Marakovits returns to DA's office

Diane M. Marakovits, a former magisterial district judge in Northampton who served as a prosecutor in the

ehigh County District Attorney's Office before her election to the minor judiciary in 2009, was named a senior deputy district attorney to fill a vacant position. Marakovits started in the office on Jan. 5, 2015.

Marakovits earned a bachelor's degree in administration of justice from Pennsylvania State

University and a law degree from Washington College of Law at American University in Washington, D.C.

Scomillo candidate for judgeship

Attorney Victor E. Scomillio, a Palmer Township resident and partner with Holzinger, Harak & Scomillio law firm, Bethlehem, has announced his candidacy for Judge of the Northampton County Court of Common Pleas in the 2015 election.

Scomillio's career began as a judicial law clerk to Judge Robert E. Simpson, Jr., with the Northampton County Court of Common Pleas. He then entered private practice, privately and as a court-appointed attorney for over 15 years.

He is a 1997 graduate of the Dickinson School of Law, now part of the Pennsylvania State University. He is a member of the Northampton County Bar Association of which he was the 2012 president.

Houle honored at Fairleigh Dickonson

Fairleigh Dickinson University has recognized Robert Houle of Bethlehem for 10 years of service to the university. He is an associate professor in the social science department in the Becton College, Florham Campus.

Nieves gets promotion

Army National Guard soldier Ariel Nieves, of Bethlehem, has been promoted to private first class. Promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability, and development potential.

She is serving with the 145th Maintenance Company, New York Army National Guard.

Long named college officer

Stephen Long of Bethlehem, a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences, has been named president of the Move for Those Who Can't/A.L.S for the 2014/2015 academic year.

Attilio among flu clinic volunteers

Mark Attilio of Bethlehem was one of 28 students from Wilkes University's pharmacy and nursing programs who volunteered with Lehigh Valley Hospital at the hospital's free drive-thru flu clinic at Dorney Park.
