Transplant #1000 recognized
Lehigh Valley Health Network recognized the 1000th organ transplant since the program began.
The first transplant , which was between a kidney donor and recipient, took place Nov. 5, 1991, at Lehigh Valley Hospital -Cedar Crest.
The Philadelphia and Pottstown donors from were speakers at a program celebrating the anniversary on Dec. 22 in the Kasych Family Pavilion, Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest. For more details, visit lvhn.org/media.
Child Advocacy program
Debra Esernio-Jenssen, M.D., a physician with Children's Hospital at Lehigh Valley Hospital, is the new medical expert for child advocacy and child abuse education. She joined the team of multidisciplinary professionals at the Child Advocacy Center, Children's Clinic, Lehigh Valley Hospital-17th Street.
Earlier this year, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett signed legislation that ensured dedicated funding streams for child advocacy centers throughout the commonwealth going forward.
Esernio-Jenssen's previous experience includes establishing a Child Advocacy Center with the University of Florida, Gainesville.
