Entire team helps in win over Pates
Parkland kept up it's roll through Eastern Pennsylvania Conference teams last Friday night at Parkland High School. Not only did the Trojans cruise to an 87-32 victory over Freedom to stay undefeated in the EPC, but each and every player had a hand in the win by scoring at least two points.
"It's a great win, and the whole team was able to contribute in this one, which is all you can ask for," said sophomore forward Sam Iorio. "It doesn't happen often and so everyone is happy. It's extra special to happen on youth night in front of the kids that are going to be a part of this program in the future."
Iorio and Devante Cross led the way by each dropping 21 points, and Kenny Yeboah tallied 13 as the Trojans took over right at the opening tip.
Parkland scored the first eight points of the game and led by 34 at halftime.
The Patriots did not shoot the ball well, but even the opportunities to score came tough for Freedom with the athleticism and stingy defense that the Trojans brought to the table.
"Coach [Stephens] preaches defense leads to offense," said Iorio. "We really take that to heart each game. We want easy transition baskets whenever we can get them. For the most part that happened tonight and we were able to hit a lot of our shots. If we play like this we can match up with anyone."
After a late December loss to St. Joe's Prep, their only loss of the season, Parkland has regrouped to win three straight.
"I took that loss to heart," said Iorio. "We shouldn't have lost that game. We lost by three but missed a lot of shots. If we can make our shots like we did tonight we can win any game."
Parkland will be back at home this Friday night against Nazareth.
