Isn't it true

That the best things in life

Are the things right in front of us

That never seem to change.

Things we can always depend on

Keep our thoughts on

Hold in our hearts

Rest our hopes on.

Big yellow school buses

in the morning

Stars that twinkle in the nightime sky

Colored lights that sparkle

on the Christmas tree

Vast oceans that stretch

far beyond our sight

Bright red fire trucks and green lights

A shiny white full moon that is rising.

The unmistakeable sound

of children playing

Dad's car coming up the driveway.

Mom's voice when you come inside

The smell of Grandma's kitchen

when she's baking

The warmth of sitting

by Grandpa's side

The screen door slamming

when you run outside

The news at 6 and then 11

Church bells that ring

at the end of the service.

The 4th of July and New Year's Eve

Turkey with trimmings

on Thanksgiving

Easter egg hunts and the summer

of Football on Sunday

and the World Series

Bingo, cold beer or soda,

seeing a movie.

A blue sky with white clouds

With a jet flying through them

A multi-colored hot air balloon

floating upward

Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy

Congress, Supreme Court, and the White House

A flag that flies with broad stripes

and bright stars.

I think you can see that the list

gets quite lengthy

The more you pause and think,

the longer it grows

So why not take a calm, quiet moment

And draw up a list all your own

And give thanks.
