Stocking for Soldiers collects over 2 tons of donations

The fifth annual Stocking for Soldiers collection brought in more than 5,600 pounds of donations.

According to Cindy Mellinger, marketing/community relations coordinator for Blue Ridge Communications, the collection topped 5,609 pounds and included food, hygiene and other requested items and more than 6,000 cards.

Donations also brought in $6,000 for shipping.

Items were collected at Blue Ridge Communications and Pencor offices, including The Press weekly newspapers in South Whitehall, and donations were made by businesses, churches, schools and individuals.

Donations were sent to troops stationed overseas who were unable to come home for the holidays.
