Lorah, Trojans hold off Diocese
Shot after shot was fired on net in the third period, and each one found the glove, stick or pads of Parkland senior goalie Jordan Lorah. Lorah came up big in the final frame, preventing any goals from crossing his line to preserve a 3-2 win over the Diocese team consisting of Bethlehem Catholic, Central Catholic and Notre Dame (Green Pond) last Monday night at Lehigh Valley Ice Arena.
The win keeps Parkland (10-0-1) undefeated on the season.
It was a stark contrast from the first time these teams met last month, with the Trojans taking that game 7-0.
"Towards the end of the year it seems everyone is always gunning for us," Lorah said. "We seem to be the team to beat every year and everyone always plays their best against us."
Freshman Jake Nimeh put Parkland on the board with a goal less than three minutes in. But, Diocese must have remembered the last time these two met, and did not want to go down in the same fashion. They outshot the Trojans 8-7 in the first period, but just could not put one passed Lorah.
But that changed in the second. Diocese tied the game two minutes in with a goal from Jake O'Donnell. Then just as the Trojans took the lead back thanks to goals from Evan Dratch and Nick White, Diocese got one back and trailed just 3-2 heading into the final period, making for a closer game than Parkland is used to facing.
There were no more goals to be scored from either team.
Lorah stopped 11 shots, each one clean, and did not give any good rebounds to preserve the win.
"It feels good to come out with this one," said Lorah. "I like the pressure of close games because we don't always see those and it helps us. It's something that gets you motivated. And if you can come out with three points even better."
Timmy Doe, Zac Fedele, Eric Johannes and Matt Steigerwald all tallied assists in the win.
Lorah continues to be the top goalie in the Lehigh Valley Scholastic Hockey League. His six wins, two shutouts, 1.33 goals against average and a .942 save percentage are at the top of the league.
