Bethlehem Cath. set to battle with Parkland
Bethlehem Catholic only has two dual meets under their belt as they enter the first week of the New Year, but that all changes quickly as the Hawks prepare for tonight's massive East Penn Conference showdown at Parkland.
It's the first of three bouts this week for Becahi (2-0, 1-0), as they enter a stretch of four matches over the next seven calendar days that will test Jeff Karam's squad's mettle.
"I know we have a strong tournament team, but I don't really know what type of dual meet team we have," said Karam following his team's 59-15 demolition over Delaware's Caesar Rodney at the Easton Invitational last Saturday. "It's going to be an interesting two weeks for us because we have some tough matchups coming up that's going to really test some of our younger guys."
That starts with Parkland (6-2, 3-0) tonight on the road, where the Trojans could give Becahi the biggest headache they'll see over their next four matches. Parkland already has a victory over Easton under their belt and should be able to steal some wins from the Hawks.
Whether they can get anywhere close to obtaining the amount of victories needed to pull off the upset will be the real question. Things don't get any easier for Becahi when the bull's-eye on their back gets even larger Friday night when they travel to Easton's 25th Street Gymnasium for a throwback match against the Rovers (9-1, 3-1).
"It's hard to say which match is going to be tougher for us," said Karam. "You look at both matches and think about getting the eight wins you need. I can't tell you which one is tougher, but Friday's match should be special. It's where I wrestled in high school [25th Street] and it's probably the only wrestling match in the conference that night. It's going to be a great atmosphere there."
The Hawks return home on Saturday to take on Stroudsburg (6-2, 2-1) to round out the week before hitting the road next Wednesday at Nazareth (3-1, 3-1).
Despite the difficulty of Becahi's upcoming schedule, the Hawks will find themselves as favorites in every match, as losing in dual meets really hasn't been Becahi's forte over the past couple of years.
In fact, the Hawks haven't lost a dual meet since the 2010-2011 season, when Easton handed them a 35-22 defeat at home in a match that decided the Lehigh Valley Conference championship.
It's been nearly four full years since Becahi has lost and Karam certainly doesn't want that to change.
"It's something we all know inside our locker room," Karam said," and we want to keep it that way."
