Fresh off one of their most convincing victories in the Andy Cerco era, Salisbury is looking to take another step forward this season.

Last week’s 41-2 win over Palisades was tied for the highest margin of victory a Salisbury team has seen in the last three-plus years. The Falcons defeated Catasauqua 49-10 last year, but last week’s showing against the Pirates is what Cerco has been looking for from his squad.

Now, things figure to heat up moving forward into Week 3 of the Colonial League football season. Salisbury (1-1) welcomes the unbeaten Crusaders (2-0) of Notre Dame (Green Pond) on Friday night. And while Notre Dame didn’t win a game in 2014, it has a number of new faces taking the field who transferred in from the recently-closed Pius X High School.

“We really needed it [the win against Palisades] for momentum for everybody to wake up in the league to know that we are one of the dominant forces,” said Falcon quarterback Tevon Weber.

The additions have certainly had a positive impact thus far. Pegged as one of the top teams in the Colonial League by some in the preseason, the Crusaders have lived up to that hype thus far.

Notre Dame is one of four teams left standing in the Colonial League without a loss, and its wins have come against Northwestern (one of last year’s tri-champions) and Catasauqua. The other three unbeaten teams in the league are Saucon Valley, Southern Lehigh and Palmerton.

“We play week by week,” Weber said. “This definitely gives us confidence because we’re coming off of a win. We’re still hungry and we want to beat Notre Dame. I think it’s going to make us play harder and faster because we want to win.”

Quarterback Tre Jordan is the leader of the Crusaders’ offense after posting a remarkable junior year at Pius X. In what turned out to be his final go-around at Pius X, Jordan threw for nearly 3,000 yards, ran for 800 more and recorded a combined 50 touchdowns (35 through the air).

Through his first two games in the Crusaders’ navy and gold, Jordan is on pace for another stellar season. He has 466 passing yards and four touchdowns through the air, while rushing for 133 yards and four more scores.

But Jordan hasn’t been the only weapon for a Crusaders team that has won back-to-back games after posting 10 losses in 2014. Mitch Daniel leads the Crusaders in rushing (227) and has three touchdowns, making the Jordan-Daniel combination a lethal duo out of the backfield.

Jordan’s main targets in the aerial attack are Nick Basenese (14 catches, 248 yards and one touchdown) and Aaron Weeler (8 catches, 50 yards, three touchdowns).
