Board member asks why

Dennis Hock, who was on the recreation board for 18 years, wanted to know why he had not been reappointed at the Jan. 5 Lehigh Township reorganization meeting.

He said he returned from Florida to read in The Press that he was the only recreation board member not reappointed.

"Give me one reason," he asked.

He also saw that the board had been reduced to five members due to the difficulty of finding people to fill spots on the board. Many meetings had to be canceled because there was no quorum.

Hock said he had the recreation fund in the black for the first time due to money received from tournaments. He said in the last two years he turned in $10,000, although there was no guarantee that would continue or improve.

He said his peers voted him in as chairman.

Supervisors Chairman Darryl Snover said Hock's reappointment will be put formally on the February agenda. The supervisors meet Feb. 10 and 24.

Hopkins had received a letter supporting Hock saying "his voice is needed. You need to give reasons."

Hopkins said she also supports him. Hock is out preparing fields and making sure no problems develop, she said.

"It is discourteous to not discuss it," she said. "I was not here that night."
