Paul S. Schuler Sr.

Paul S. Schuler Sr., 81, of Laurys Station, died Dec. 26, 2014, in his home.

He was the husband of the late Edna E. (Ehret) Schuler.

Born April 6, 1933, in Allentown, he was the son of the late Stanley G. and Meda A. (Heydt) Schuler and the stepson of Julia M. (Kollman) Schuler.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War era.

A machinist at Mack Trucks Inc., Allentown, for 36 years, he retired in 1990.

He also served as Union Steward of U.A.W. Local 677.

Active in the life of his church and community, he was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Laurys Station, where he was the sexton since 1994, formerly served on the consistory and was a Sunday School teacher.

He was an active member of the Laurys Station Volunteer Fire Company for 33 years, as a firefighter, safety officer and quartermaster.

He played the role of Santa Claus in an extraordinary way to the delight of many children and family members.

His survivors include fiancée, Janet L. (Anthony) Engleman of Slatington; children Linda Lee Craddock of Laurys Station, Paul S. Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Bethlehem, Ronald E. of Laurys Station; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a great-grandson with whom he is now reunited.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Jan. 2, at St. John's UCC,1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, with the Rev. Dr. James T. Gottwald officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday in Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday in the church narthex.

Interment with honors will follow the service in the adjacent church cemetery.
