At the Hanover Township Council meeting Dec. 3, township Engineer Fredrick Hay reported that water levels in Hanover Lake in Canal Park have stabilized, but he recommended another grout to fill sink holes.
Last month, the township noticed that a sinkhole had opened in the recently revamped lake.
Two years ago, the lake had been drained and rejuvenated at considerable expense to the township.
At its November meeting, council took immediate steps to fill the sinkhole, but the grout did not flow into an adjacent sinkhole.
At council's last meeting, Hay recommended that the second sinkhole be filled at an estimated cost of $6,000.
Councilman Bob Heimbecker asked the township to investigate fluctuations in water pressure in the Sherwood development.
The area is served by Bethlehem Water Authority. A couple of years ago, water leaks were suspected in a sinkhole that opened in the Sherwood development. Heimbecker referred the matter to the township staff.
Once the sinkholes are filled, it is expected to take three months to refill the lake.
It appears that the township's investment in fish fingerlings is lost.
